Bearlite

Bearlite is a pre-paving aggregate that is an extremely cost-effective alternative to limestone. Recently approved by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, Bearlite has recently been used in huge construction projects like the Gramercy Bridge.

What is Bearlite?

Bearlite (Calcium Carbonate) is an aggregate similar to limestone. It is the only product that begins in a sludge consistency before it hardens and is cold-planed to produce aggregates. After Bearlite is transported and installed at the jobsite, water is added and it returns to its former dense and hard condition.

Recommendations for Bearlite

Haul Bearlite material to a jobsite in dump trucks and spread to desired thickness.
Water the material to bring moisture content above optimum moisture during compaction.
Compact with acceptable rollers to obtain maximum density.
Blade to bring a finish grade.
Cover all Bearlite base courses with an acceptable wearing surface.
If these procedures are not followed, Bearlite, as with other base material, may have problems meeting specifications.
